Amy O'Brien Minister of Christian Education |
|
Born in Davao City, Philippines, where her parents were serving as missionaries, and raised for most of her formative years in Singapore, Amy is what you might call a “third-culture kid.” Despite her blonde hair and green eyes she feels more at home around those with more Asian features, and instead of hotdogs and mashed potatoes, she finds herself craving sushi, rice, and even squid. After accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of eight, Amy’s faith was nourished at International Baptist Church in Singapore, where her father was pastor, and by the direct encouragement of her parents at home. In high school, as she became increasingly involved in church activities, she felt called to serve the Lord in ministry, and soon thereafter enrolled at Ouachita Baptist University to pursue a degree in Christian theology. There she added knowledge to zeal through her study of the scriptures, the church fathers, and contemporary theology. Amy has been consistently involved in her local church in the areas of Sunday School, music, and missions. During college she had the honor of serving as a Women’s Ministry intern for three summers at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. For the past year and half, Amy has served the Lord in an administrative role at Pioneer Clubs. Although she had hoped to begin graduate studies immediately following graduation from college, Amy began working at Pioneer Clubs while her husband, Brandon, attended graduate school. All along, she has been anxious to continue in her studies and to move toward her goal of full-time vocational ministry. Amy and her husband Brandon have been married for a about a year and a half. Brandon has just completed his M.A. at Wheaton College. While working at Immanuel, Amy will pursue an M.A. in Christian Formation and Ministry at Wheaton College, a degree she trusts will prepare her to carefully handle the theological, philosophical, and sociological dynamics of ministry that she will encounter in her ministry at Immanuel.
